A couple of muted assignations spice things up in a greater 5th episode, but Season 5 nevertheless requires a lot more of that old “Billions” magic.

It’s a method that is tried-and-true in life and television: whenever things have dull, simply include intercourse. The writers of “Billions” have finally delivered at least some of the goods that have recently been in short supply after four underwhelming episodes, mostly spent exhaustingly establishing new rivalries and schemes that hardly raise an eyebrow. The episode that is fifth of period, “Contract,” advances new intimate entanglements for recently divorced Wendy (Maggie Siff) and Chuck (Paul Giamatti).
Because the groundwork have been very carefully set both for assignations, both had been consummated without much fanfare or build-up. Read more
